CITYHAWK:Flying Vehicle And the Opportunities For India

By Muaz Aqdas

We all remember the trilogy “Back to the future” where we enjoyed the most thrilling time-travel and its great comedy. Timetravel is still one of the most intriguing theories of all time and I don’t know if we would ever reach there, but Urban Aeronautics has made ‘the flying DeLorean’ possible.

Well instead of DeLorean, it’s a completely new looking air vehicle(or one can say air carriers).

The Cityhawk eVTOL(electrical vertical takeoff and landing) flying car by metro skyways, a subsidiary company of Israeli-based aerodynamic technologies developer, urban aeronautics, will run on hydrogen.

According to the company, hydrogen is the only 100% environmentally friendly power source, as it can be produced using solar and wind power. unlike batteries, hydrogen fuel cell battery technology doesn't have a limited life cycle and generates zero toxic waste.

Indian Opportunities

The founders of Israeli company Urban Aeronautics, have said that they are open to setting up a manufacturing unit in India. The company has been working on the project for two decades and is looking to raise $40 million.

The company has been working on the project— in which India’s Tata Group has a small investment— for the last two decades.

The founders said that they see a company like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited(HAL) as a potential partner.

The Yoelis see the flying car useful as an ambulance for health emergencies to start with, something that government or private hospitals and civic bodies can incorporate into their fleet.

These VTOL aircraft can pick you from your terrace and drop you anywhere you want, in any weather conditions. It would be time-efficient, no suffering of long-lasting traffics as we face on a daily basis in India. These could be used for air taxi services, ambulances, and for different emergency services to meet the needs of people.

Air chartering of cityhawk in India seems possible only after a decade or so, but we can hope for the best.

today’s innovation needs to anticipate tomorrow’s technology in order to optimize it’s potential, Fancraft technologies are designed in order to accommodate evolving technologies ranging from AI to energy, as they mature. these are aircraft that will be around for decades to come.’ states the metro skyways.

Including the pilot for flight controls, it can accommodate up to six-person in a cabin 50% larger than a comparable helicopter. It consists of two rotors inside its body instead of having exposed rotors like a helicopter.

Metro Skyways is building and testing its aircraft using the most powerful source of propulsion available today: a conventional turbine engine fueled by jet fuel. by doing this, the company is able to design an aircraft today that has all of the attributes and capabilities of its ideal flying car for tomorrow with the knowledge that it will meet up with its ideal fuel (cost-effective) in a few short years.
