Online scams or internet fraud involves usage of the internet and comes under cybercrime for misuse of internets such as hiding information, providing wrong information such as showing wrong data by manipulating numbers, But on a larger scale which could affect someone financially by tricking the victim for money and property. Cybercrime is different from theft as the victim unknowingly gives information that becomes a source for these scams.

TYPES OF SCAMS


1.CHARITY/DONATION

The most common type has been’ charity fraud’ where the scammer asks for donations for a social cause such as for food, cloth, shelter for poor people, cancer donation, funds for education. In times of crisis such as in financial and natural calamities where the scammer sends a note about the cause for donation and ask to send money by clicking the ‘link’ or it could even be from unsecured websites which pops advertisement and by clicking that ad it will lead to their website.

The Reason behind charity fraud as a common online scam is because it plays with people’s emotions by making them either showing photos or by giving false hopes and promises for bringing change in society.

2.SOCIAL MEDIA 

Social media fraud is increasing nowadays with more people getting access to the internet, they make their social media where they share their information such as name, age, place where they reside DOB, etc. This information is collected in large numbers which becomes a database where fake ids are created. This could be dangerous as the scammer can misuse someone’s identity.

3.ONLINE TICKET BOOKING

Online ticket booking is a type of fraud which mainly happens for concerts or sports events as on such occasion the tickets get sold out easily. The fraudster either sells fake tickets or the tickets are never delivered. This type of fraud usually happens when tickets get sold out and these websites to resell tickets at a higher price than the cost of tickets.

4.PURCHASE/ONLINE SHOPPING

Purchase fraud is similar to online tickets as the consumer's goods are either never delivered or it would be a fake item.

5.MAKE MONEY ONLINE

Make money online easily is a scam where the fraudster will ask for a small amount of money to be deposited in his bank account where he claims to increase the money an exponential rate. This might come even in advertisements that this individual invested in this stock or cryptocurrency and became rich. 

CONCLUSION

These types of scams will continue to happen and it can only be avoided by us, the users as the scammer tricks us by our emotions, we should be aware of these mentioned scams as it is a common type. While using the internet we should be careful. To avoid these types of scams we have to use secured websites and should not click any unknown link or download from unknown websites. The above 5 scams are common types but Some of the scams happen daily still we ignore it.
